MODIFICATIONS OF COTS OFFERING – ON DEMAND

SV Microwave offers a flexible approach to customizing our COTS products to meet unique customer needs. Our applications and design engineering teams routinely make minor adjustments to standard parts-such as lengthening flanges, adjusting retention features, or altering PCB connector lengths—to support specific design requirements. Below are some examples.

Example 1: PCB Connector Length Modification

Part number 1211-66452, although a standard product, originated from a customization of the base of part number 1211-66137. In this case, the modification involved extending the PCB length and adjusting the flange to enhance performance.

Example 2: Captivation Method Modification

Center contact retention can be achieved in a connector in several ways, depending on the dielectric material. PTFE, for example, uses a barb captivation method to hold the center contact in place within the body of a PCB connector. While this captivation method stops the contact from moving back and forth, it still allows for radial movement.

Radial captivation is achieved with a glass seal or epoxy dielectric design. The contact is fused to the glass or epoxy dielectric, which provides excellent center contact retention in both the axial and center rotations.

PTFE / Barb Captivation

PTFE, as a dielectric, features a barb that affixes the center contact in place, but still allows for rotation.

Glass or Epoxy Seal Captivation

Glass or epoxy material as the dielectric prevents center contact rotation.

Example 3: Cable Assembly Modifications

SV Microwave is able to take an existing COTS cable assembly and modify it in any number of ways including: changing the cable type to a larger or smaller cable diameter, increasing or shortening the length, or swapping out one of the cable connectors, for one of a different RF interface. Below are two COTS examples where a cable assembly has been modified for a shorter length, and different cable diameter.
